Im vergangenen Jahr bekam die 75-jährige Sigbritt Löthberg den mit 40 Gigabit pro Sekunde weltweit schnellsten Internetzugang in einem Wohnhaus, genug, um in nur zwei Sekunden eine DVD herunterzuladen. Die aufwändige Hardware benutzt sie allerdings zum Wäsche trocknen.
Es handele sich um ein großes Stück Ausrüstung und wurde ziemlich warm, sagte Hafsteinn Jonsson, Leiter des Glasfaser Netzwerks von ISP Karlstad Stadsnät. Ansonsten hätte sich Löthbergs Leben durch den schnellen Internetzugang nicht sonderlich verändert.
Hinter dem Anschluss steckt Löthbergs Sohn Peter Löthberg, eine schwedische Internetlegende. Er wollte demonstrieren, dass eine preiswerte, leistungsfähige Glasfaserleitung über große Entfernungen gebaut werden kann. Im Moment wird überlegt, Löthbergs Leitung im Sommer auf 100 Gb/s auszubauen.
