Staat zahlt Geschlechtsumwandlungen
In Brasilien wurde ein Rechtsstreit zwischen einem Bürgerbeauftragten und der Regierung zu Fragen der Kostenübernahme bei Geschlechtsumwandlungen entschieden. Die Regierung lehnte zunächst aus finanziellen Gründen die Übernahme der Kosten ab.
Ein Bundesgericht entschied nun, dass eine Geschlechtsumwandlung ein Menschenrecht ist und somit vom staatlichen Gesundheitssystem die Kosten zu übernehmen sind. Damit soll einer möglichen Selbstverstümmelung entgegen getreten werden.
Die Kosten für eine solche Operation belaufen sich in Porto Alegre auf rund 750,00 Euro. Schätzungsweise jeder 10.000te Brasilianer könnte diese Operation wünschen. 250 dieser Eingriffe wurden in den Jahren zwischen 2000 bis 2007 durchgeführt.
